Pi Yao are mythical ancient dragons that resemble winged lions. They have a dragon's head, a lion's body, horns on their head, bulging eyes, sharp teeth, and mandatory wings. Their earliest depictions are in images and stone carvings from the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). They are considered powerful protectors of the souls of the deceased, Feng Shui practitioners, and anyone who needs to attract wealth into their lives. Pi Yao have an insatiable appetite for gold, silver, and jewelry. Traditionally, they are seen as auspicious beings with mystical powers capable of attracting wealth from all directions. According to Feng Shui, this is especially beneficial for those going through a bad year. They are believed to have the ability to help anyone suffering from bad Feng Shui, affected by Tai Sui (Grand Duke), or being pursued by bad luck. They always come in pairs but have no gender. One creature is responsible for protection from bad luck and removing obstacles, while the other is for wealth. It goes out into the world to seek gold and other forms of prosperity. When it returns to the owner's home, it guards the wealth. Placing a pair of Pi Yao figurines in the home or office prevents money from leaking out. This symbol is primarily used for protection and attracting prosperity to its owners.
