MORE ABOUT AYURVEDA
Ayurveda is a natural medical system originating from India more than 3000 years ago. The term Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda is translated as the knowledge of life. Based on the idea that disease is due to imbalance or stress in a person’s mind, Ayurveda promotes certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to restore balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment.
Ayurvedic treatment begins with an internal cleansing process, followed by a special diet, herbal medicines, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation. The concepts of universal interconnectedness, body constitution (prakriti), and vital forces (doshas) are the foundation of Ayurvedic medicine. The goals of treatment help the person by eliminating toxins, reducing symptoms, increasing resistance to diseases, reducing anxiety, and increasing harmony in life. Herbs and other plants, including oils and common spices, are widely used in Ayurvedic treatment.
In India, Ayurveda is considered a form of medical assistance equal to conventional Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathic medicine, and homeopathic medicine. Practitioners of Ayurveda in India undergo state-recognized institutionalized training. Ayurveda can have a positive effect when used as an adjunct therapy in combination with standard, conventional medical care, but it should not replace standard, conventional medical care, especially when treating serious conditions.
WHAT HAPPENS ON OUR ANNUAL TRIPS TO INDIA?
The purpose of the trip we make to India is a healing stay at an Ayurvedic clinic in India for a duration of 2 or 3 weeks, depending on your desire and possibilities.
The clinic is located in the town of Kovalam, Kerala. The pleasant climate combined with the restorative procedures has an exceptionally beneficial impact on the body, psyche, and immune system.
At the clinic, an initial examination is done, based on which treatment is assigned individually for each patient.
The treatment includes:
One hour of deep massage using an ancient system that improves circulation and lymphatic flow, removes blockages in the body, makes the body more flexible, and restores normal energy flow in the body. The massage is performed with sesame oil with various herbs inside.
After this massage, 2.5 – 3 hours of specific Ayurvedic procedures with herbs are performed, which are individual for each patient. They vary according to the needs of the body and are assigned daily by the main doctor of the clinic. These procedures can include pouring water (or milk) with medicinal herbs on the body, Shirodhara (pouring gently heated oil on the forehead), joint compresses, as needed, massage with warm pouches filled with rice, dry massage with turmeric, and many others. The procedures may change daily, based on the doctor's judgment. There is a daily consultation with the doctor before entering the procedures to monitor the progress of the treatment.
All of this is combined with cleansing procedures, daily intake of Ayurvedic herbal medicines, which are prepared on-site at the clinic, yoga practices, and Ayurvedic food.
Yoga practices are optional; the clinic offers sessions for both advanced and beginner practitioners. The yoga instructor is highly skilled.
The next trip to India is scheduled for January 3, 2026. A stay of 2 or 3 weeks is possible.
